Grechetto Rosso

The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Grechetto Rosa, Greghetto, Grero and Vernaccia di Arulo. According to DNA analyses carried out in 1999, the Grero variety is identical (VIVC catalogue), but is listed as independent in the Italian M.I.P.A.A.F grape variety list. The exact origin and parentage are unclear. It could be a variety of Grechetto di Orvieto, a synonym for the Sangiovese variety, or an independent variety. In the DOC area Colli Etruschi Viterbesi in the region of Latium, it is the main variety of a red wine under the local name Grechetto or Greghetto. It is cultivated in the three regions of Lazio, Umbria and Veneto. In 2016, a total of 35 hectares of vineyards were designated under the name Grechetto Rosso (Kym Anderson statistics).
