green

Term for the smell or taste in the context of a wine address. Such a wine has a taste of green plants or grass. The term can have both a positive and a negative meaning in the context of the rest of the description. It is used for a young, unripe wine that is still developing, but also for an acidic wine made from unripe or over-pressed grapes. An Austrian dialect expression is "greaneln" (greening - from "grean" for green). Related terms are grasig and pfeffrig. Regarding wine or grape colour, see under colour.
