The winery "Georg Mumelter - Griesbauerhof" is located in the municipality of Bolzano in Rentsch in the Italian wine-growing region of South Tyrol ( Trentino-South Ty rol region). The hereditary farm has been in the family since 1785. After the First World War until the 1970s, only St. Magdalener was produced, which was sold exclusively as open wine to Switzerland. Since 2000, it has been bottled exclusively in 0.75-liter bottles. The vineyards are located at 300 meters above sea level and cover 3.5 hectares, which are planted with Lagrein, Pinot Grigio, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Since 2005, a vineyard in Moritzing near Gries with 0.3 hectares of Lagrein has been leased. Finally, in 2008, the "Spitz" vineyard at the confluence of the Eisack and Etsch rivers was purchased, where Merlot is cultivated.

Integrated pest management is practiced with no use of herbicides. The grass cuttings from the fully planted vineyards are used as fertiliser. If necessary, irrigation is carried out by means of a drip irrigation system. The quality criteria in the vineyard are intensive foliage work and strict yield regulation with only one grape per shoot for Lagrein, Merlot and Vernatsch, as well as halving the grapes for Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Sauvignon. The red wine grapes are destemmed. Fermentation takes place under controlled temperature using pure culture yeasts. After 10 to 15 days, the wine is drawn off and placed either in large wooden barrels or in steel tanks, where malolactic fermentation takes place. The wine is then stored and aged in large wooden barrels and in barriques. The wines are exported to Germany, Switzerland and the USA. The winery is a member of Tirolensis Ars Vini and the Free Winegrowers of South Tyrol.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
