The zone includes in its entirety the municipalities of Alfiano Natta, Altavilla Monferrato, Camagna Monferrato, Camino, Casale Monferrato, Castelletto Merli, Cella Monte, Cereseto, Cerrina Monferrato, Coniolo, Conzano, Cuccaro Monferrato, Frassinello Monferrato, Gabiano, Mombello Monferrato, Montecestino, Murisengo, Odalengo Grande, Odalengo Piccolo, Olivola, Ottiglio, Ozzano Monferrato, Pontestura, Ponzano Monferrato, Rosignano Monferrato, Sala Monferrato, San Giorgio Monferrato, Serralunga di Crea, Solonghello, Terruggia, Treville, Vignale Monferrato,Villadeati and Villamiroglio in the province of Alessandria. The wine is made from Grignolino (90%) and Freisa (max. 10%). Another DOC area in Piedmont with a red wine of this variety is Grignolino d'Asti.
