The winery is located in the municipality of Bechtheim (Wonnegau area) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. It was founded in 1899 by Heinrich Groh and is now run by the fourth generation of the family, Axel Groh. The vineyards cover 12 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Geyersberg, Heiligkreuz, Rosengarten and Stein (Bechtheim), as well as Frühmesse and Römerberg (Alsheim). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Kerner, Huxelrebe and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Regent, Portugieser, Dornfelder, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Dunkelfelder.

The wines are predominantly vinified dry. One of the house's specialities is barrique wines, which have been vinified since 1986 and marketed under the EDITION HAUS GROH line. The premium wines of the house are pressed from special vineyards with the highest demands on soil, location and grapes, primarily from Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. The yield of these vineyards is limited to 0.3 litres per square metre (one third normal yield). Since the 2007 vintage, many white wines have been bottled with the STELVIN screw cap brand. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines, sparkling wines, noble brandies (yeast, grape) and liqueurs are also produced.
