The red grape variety (also Tinta Grossa) comes from Portugal, The parentage is unknown. Despite the apparently indicative synonym Tinta Grossa or morphological No similarities with the varieties Carrega Tinto. Marufo or Tinta Barroca be confused. The late ripening vine with thick-skinned berries produces deep dark red wines with diverse aromas of sour cherries, blackberries and vanilla, The variety is mainly used in the area Vidigueira ( Alentejo ), as well as in the area Tejo grown. In 2010, an acreage of 73 hectares was reported (Statistics Kym Anderson ).
