The family winery Matthias & Ilse Gsellmann is located in the municipality of Gols (Obere Hauptstraße 28) in the Burgenland wine-growing region of Neusiedlersee (Austria). The origin lies in the Gsellmann & Gsellmann winery, which existed until 2005. Then there was a separation into the two businesses of Andreas Gsellmann and the winery now run by Matthias Gsellmann and his daughter Christine (Boku graduate).
The vineyards cover 16 hectares of vines in the Albert Kasimir Puszta Nord (Halbturn), Übermaszen (Jois) and Ungerberg (Gols) vineyards. Two thirds of the vineyards are planted with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, St. Laur ent, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, and one third with the white wine varieties Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Welschriesling, Gelber Muskateller and Scheurebe. The vineyards are cultivated in a natural way.
The quality philosophy of the house is to vinify expressive wines that reflect the typicality of the grape variety, location, climate and vintage. The premium wines include the red wine cuvée Alte Lagen (Merlot, Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon), the red wine Blauer Zweigelt Heideboden and the white wine Chardonnay Selektion. In years with suitable weather conditions, Trockenbeerenauslese and ice wines are also produced.
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
