Gueuche Noir

The red grape variety originates from France. Synonyms are Espagnon, Foirard, Foirard, Foirard Noir, Gauche, Gros Plant, Guat, Plant d'ArlayPlant de Saint Remy and Plant de Treffort. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it originates from a presumably natural cross between Gouais Blanc x unknown partner. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). There are morphological similarities with the variety Enfariné Noir. The medium to late ripening vine is susceptible to botrytis and other fungal diseases. The almost extinct variety is cultivated in Département Jura in very small quantities. However, no stock was recorded in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
