The important French wine trading house (Négociant) E. & M. Guigal, with its headquarters in Ampuis, is located in the north of the Rhône wine-growing region. It was founded in 1946 by Étienne Guigal. His son Marcel Guigal took over the management in 1971. He is considered one of the pioneers of the region, who contributed significantly to the improvement of quality. Due to the highest ratings of the wine journalist Robert M. Parker, Marcel Guigal also became internationally known in the mid-1980s. Today he is counted among the best winemakers in the world. His own vineyards cover 20 hectares in the best steep slopes in the Côte Rôtie appellation, but he buys grapes from many small winegrowers. They mature for at least three years in new oak barrels and are bottled without fining or filtration. Among the best known are the standard bottling "Côtes Brune et Blonde", as well as the single-vineyard wines "La Mouline", "La Landonne", "La Turque" and "Château d'Ampuis". Furthermore, wines are also produced in the AC areas Condrieu, Côtes du Rhône, Gigondas, Hermitage and Tavel. In 1984, the company took over Vidal Fleury and later also De Vallouit and Jean-Louis Grippat.
