Guigal

The important French wine trading house ( Négociant ) E. & M. Guigal, headquartered in Ampuis, is in the north of the wine-growing region Rhone, It was founded in 1946 by Étienne Guigal. His son Marcel Guigal took over the management in 1971. He is considered one of the pioneers in the region who made a significant contribution to quality improvement. Highest ratings from wine journalist Robert M. Parker Marcel Guigal also became internationally known in the mid-1980s. Today he is considered one of the best wine makers in the world. The own vineyards cover 20 hectares in the best steep slopes in the appellation Côte Rôtie, however, grapes are bought by many small winegrowers. They mature in new oak barrels for at least three years and are bottled without fining and filtration. The best-known include the standard bottling "Côtes Brune et Blonde", as well as the single-layer wines "La Mouline", "La Landonne", "La Turque" and "Château d'Ampuis". Furthermore, there are also wines in the AC areas Condrieu. Cotes du Rhone. Gigondas. Hermitage and Tavel produced. In 1984 the company Vidal Fleury and later also De Vallouit and Jean-Louis Grippat were taken over.
