The winery is located in the municipality of Montan / Montagna in the Italian wine-growing area South-Tirol (Region Trentino-Alto Adige ). The traditional business was founded in 1880 and today run by Franz Haas in the seventh generation of the family. It is processed grapes from a total of 55 hectares of vineyards, which are largely owned and partly leased or supplied by grape farmers. The vineyards are located in the communities of Neumarkt, Montan and Aldein at 240 to 1,150 meters above sea level with a variety of microclimatic zones and soils, from porphyritic sand to alumina to very calcareous soils. The last vineyard was created 1,150 meters above sea level with Pinot Nero vines.
There, the white varieties Pinot Grigio ( Pinot Gris ), Pinot Bianco ( Pinot Blanc ) Riesling. Chardonnay. Gewurztraminer. Depending on the type of wine, the wines are fermented in steel tanks or barrique. The white wines are stored on the long lees, The red wines are mostly in Barrique expanded. The flagship of the house is the first 1990 (1987 vintage) marketed "Pinot Nero Swiss", which is only pressed in the best years. He matures for up to 15 months in barrique and 12 months in the bottle. Other premium wines are the white wine cuvée "Manna" (Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon) and the Bordeaux blend "Istante" (Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, 18 months in oak barrels and 12 months in bottles). The labels of the wines are designed by the famous Italian painter and architect Riccardo Schweizer.
