Haider Gerhard

The estate is located in the municipality Illmitz in Burgenland wine region Lake Neusiedl (Austria). The traditional family business has existed since 1870. Today it is run by the fourth generation of Gerhard and Silvia Haider, father Martin Haider is responsible for the vineyards. These cover 13 hectares of vineyards in, for example, the vineyards Kaiserwinkel, Römerstein and Sandriegel. They are 70% with the white varieties Welschriesling, Riesling, seedling 88, Grüner Veltliner, Tramin, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Bouvier and Muscat Ottonel, as well as to 30% with the red varieties Blauer Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch , Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and St. Laurent planted. There is a temperature-controlled fermentation by pure culture yeast with the shortest possible fermentation time. Martin Haider is regarded as an absolute specialist of sweet wines in all predicate stages from Beerenauslese over Trockenbeerenauslese to Eiswein, which account for up to 70% of the production in good years. These are exported up to 85%. The premium wines include Trockenbeerenauslese, Nektaressenz-Trockenbeerenauslese (very high-grade Trockenbeerenauslese, which can be produced only in very good vintages) and matured in barriques red wines. Also worth mentioning is the white wine cuvée "Federwolke" (Riesling, Grüner Veltliner) with only 9.5% vol alcohol content.
