Hallebühl

Riede (site) in the municipality of Frauenkirchen in the Burgenland wine-growing region of Neusiedlersee (Austria). The dialectal name derives from "Hügel", which was a lookout hill during the second Turkish siege of Vienna in 1683. The vineyards consist of sandy soils rich in minerals and interspersed with gravel with a higher proportion of magnesium and manganese. These are particularly suitable for red wine varieties such as Blauburgunder, Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon and St. Laurent. The famous Umathum vineyard, for example, has a share of the reed.
