The white grape variety comes from Hungary. Synonyms are among others Ash Grey, Baratcsuha, Biter, Grey Pearl Grape, Grey Tokay, Hamuszoeloe, Hamvas Baratcsvha, Nagyvati, Olajszoeloe, Serdivi Rauczy and Smutni. The parentage (parenthood) is unknown. It must not be confused with the variety Pinot Gris (with synonym Hamvas Szoeloe). The gray berry vine was a crossing partner in the new breeding Alba Imputotato. It is cultivated in tiny quantities in the Hungarian Balatonfured-Csopak area. In 2016, 0.3 hectares of vineyard area were designated there (statistics Kym Anderson).
