Common name or synonym in South Africa (German: Hahnenfuß, also Haanepoot, White Hanepoot) for the white grape variety Muscat d'Alexandrie, which is cultivated here in all areas. It is used for almost all wine styles or products, namely dry, sweet and fortified wines, as well as table grapes, sultanas and grape juice. However, Hanepoot is also commonly used in South Africa as a term for simple wines (consumer wine).
