Happenbach

The red grape variety (also table grape Happenbach) was long considered a new breed between Trollinger ( Schiava Grossa ) x Sylvaner; the name was given after the place of the same name in Wuerttemberg in Germany, The crossing took place in the early 1930s at the Weinbauinstitut vineyard, The father variety was supposedly one by Gustav Adolf Froelich (1847-1912) the selection of Red Silvaner (a red berry variety of Silvaner) was made. In the 2010s was through DNA analysis at the Geilweilerhof (Julius Kühn Institute) found that it is a "purebred" variety Trollinger (Schiava Grossa). It was earlier than table grape used.
