Hassel

single vineyard in the municipality of Hattenheim in the German wine-growing region of Rheingau. It was first mentioned in the 14th century as "Hasele", which refers to the hazelnut bush. In the 19th century, the name "Hasselt" was in common use. The southwest-facing vineyards at 100 metres above sea level with a slope of 20 to 25% cover 33 hectares of vines on deep loess and clay soils. They are sheltered from the wind and have a special heat retention capacity and a good water storage capacity. The Riesling variety is cultivated here in particular. The Barth Norbert, Erbslöh, Georg Müller Stiftung and Kaufmann Urban wineries, for example, have shares in the site.
