The winery is located in the municipality of Bermersheim vor der Höhe ( Bingen area) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. The family has been involved in viticulture for 300 years, and today the estate is run by Heinz-Günter Hauck. The vineyards cover 25 hectares in the single vineyard sites Hildegardisberg and Klosterberg (Bermersheim), Kachelberg (Ensheim), Rotenfels (Alzey), and Hundskopf (Albig). Two thirds of the vineyards are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Silvaner, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Scheurebe, Auxerrois, Kerner and Bacchus, and one third with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Blauer Portugieser, St.Laurent, Regent, Dornfelder, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Neronet. Natural, environmentally friendly viticulture is practised with, for example, cover crop, organic fertilisation using press residues and protection of beneficial insects by dispensing with insecticides. The wines are vinified gently in combination with modern technology and tradition. Due to the diversity of varieties, there is a wide range of products. In years when the weather is suitable, Trockenbeerenauslese and ice wines are also produced. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and semi-sparkling wines are also produced.
As honorary chairman of the Domäne Wachau, it is the easiest and quickest way for me to access the wein.plus encyclopaedia when I have questions. The certainty of receiving well-founded and up-to-date information here makes it an indispensable guide.
