The red grape variety is a new breed between Muscat Rouge
x Pinot Noir
, It was named after the main stream of ancient Thrace (today it is called Maritza). The crossing took place in Bulgaria
by the private breeders D. Babrikov and P. Kourtev. In 2010, however, no stock was shown (Kym Anderson
). But there is also a Bulgarian branded wine of the same name; a cuvee produced in sherry style.
