Hebros

The red grape variety (also Herbos) is a new variety between Muscat à Petits Grains Rouges (red variety Muscat Blanc) x Pinot Noir. It was named after Hébros, the main river of ancient Thrace (today it is called Maritza). The cross was made in Bulgaria in 1952 by two private breeders P. Kourtev and D. Babrikov. Despite the synonym, it must not be confused with the variety Herbos; they are two different varieties (personal information Dr. Erika Maul, JKI-Institute Geilweilerhof). In 2016 no stocks were reported (statistics Kym Anderson).

However, there is also a Bulgarian branded wine of the same name; a cuvée produced in sherry style.
