The red grape variety is a new breed between Muscat rouge
x Pinot Noir
, It was named after the main river of ancient Thrace (today it is called Maritza). The crossing took place in Bulgaria
by private breeders D. Babrikov and P. Kourtev. In 2010, however, no stock was reported (Kym Anderson
). But there is also a Bulgarian brand wine of the same name; a cuvée produced in sherry style.
