Nicholas Herbemont (1771-1839), a Frenchman by birth, was a large-scale vine breeder in the USA in Columbia, South Carolina. The Herbemont variety, which he selected in 1790, is named after him. In 1828, Herbemont gave the winegrower Nicholas Longworth (1783-1863) a number of cuttings of the Jacquez variety he had selected, which he had received from Isaac Lenoir in South Carolina.
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
