Hermannsberg

single vineyard in the municipality of Niederhausen in the German wine-growing region of Nahe. The name probably dates back to Roman times and is possibly a corruption of Hermes, the Roman patron god of all messengers and travellers. The south to south-west facing vineyards at 150 to 180 metres above sea level with a slope of 5 to 40% cover almost six hectares of vines. The subsoil consists of slate clay and melaphyre with loess loam with plenty of fine soil on top and is artificially gravelly. Mainly Riesling is cultivated here. The climatic conditions with a good flow of cold air favour the production of ice wine. In addition, the sun intensity is high due to the reflection of the nearby Nahe river in the vineyards. The vineyard is the sole property of Weingut Gut Hermannsberg.
