high Castle

Single location in the municipality Ruppertsberg (area Mittelhaardt-German Wine Route) in the German growing area palatinate, It owes its name to a destroyed in the 14th century castle of the Knights of Ruprechtsberg. The origin of the plant dates back to the Roman period, which is attested by numerous finds. A special exhibit was a closed barrel jug from the 4th century, which still contained remnants of wine. Probably viticulture was already practiced here at this time. The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vines on Buntsandstein weathered soils. The centerpiece is a plot enclosed by a 1.5 meter high wall. The varieties Riesling, Pinot Noir and Dornfelder are cultivated. Shares in the situation have for example the wineries Bassermann-Jordan. Dr. Bürklin-Wolf and Villa Wolf,
