The grapevine can also thrive at very high altitudes. The highest vineyards in the world are located in Tibet at 3,563 metres above sea level and in Argentina at 3,111 metres. However, the examples listed below are absolute exceptions. The ideal conditions for viticulture in terms of altitude and latitude are found in the so-called vine belts. The environmental conditions such as soil type, climate and weather are described under Vine and viticultural suitability. In any case, high-altitude wine-growing regions are hardly affected by climate change.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
