Himbertscha

The white grape variety originates from the border region Italy/Switzerland. The name is not derived from the raspberry, but probably from the Latin term "im bercla"(pergola), because this is the traditional way of growing it. Due to morphological similarities it must not be confused with the "half-brother" Lafnetscha. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2004, it is a cross between Humagne Blanche and an unknown variety. In Switzerland, the variety is classified in the Old Growths grape variety group. The medium-ripening, high-yielding vine is susceptible to botrytis, but is well suited to dry soils. It produces a straw yellow white wine with aromas of citrus and mango. This practically extinct variety was revived in 1984 by the winegrower Josef-Maria Chanton in the canton of Valais in the municipality of Visperterminen. In 2016, 0.2 hectares of vineyards were designated (statistics Kym Anderson).
