Hofbauer Ludwig

The estate is located in the municipality of Unterretzbach Retz in the Lower Austrian wine region Weinviertel, The traditional company was first mentioned in 1615. Ludwig Hofbauer I began in 1931 with planting and selection of the vines. Son Edwin Hofbauer bottled the first wine in 1949. Ludwig Hofbauer II. Has been responsible for operations since 2000. The vineyards cover 18 hectares of vineyards in, for example, the semi-vineyards, holy stone, fields, livers and sand pit. Around three quarters are planted with the white varieties Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer and Neuburger, and a quarter with the red varieties Zweigelt, Blauburgunder, Blauburger, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. 90% of the white wines are fermented in steel tanks and expanded fruity. The red wines mature in large wooden barrels or in barriques. Premium wines include, for example Weinviertel DAC half-rows, Grüner Veltliner Classic, Sauvignon Blanc Lebern, the white wine blend "Ludwig II." (Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay, Riesling, Traminer) and Zweigelt Classic. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines, brandies (fruit, grains, pomace, wine), liqueurs (nut, raspberry, sour cherry) and, in weather-appropriate years, ice wines are also produced.
