Hofbauer Ludwig

The estate is located in the community Unterretzbach Retz in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region Weinviertel, The traditional business was first mentioned in documents in 1615. In 1931, Ludwig Hofbauer I. began with varietal planting and selection of the vines. Son Edwin Hofbauer bottled the first wine in 1949. Since the year 2000 Ludwig Hofbauer II is responsible as operator. The vineyards cover 18 hectares of vineyards in, for example, the vineyards Halblehen, Holy Stone, In fields, livers and sand pit. They are planted with about three quarters of the white varieties Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer and Neuburger, as well as a quarter of the red varieties Zweigelt, Pinot Noir, Blauburger, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The white wines are 90% fermented in steel tanks and fruity. The red wines are aged in large oak barrels or barriques. For example, the premium wines include Weinviertel DAC Halblehen, Grüner Veltliner Classic, Sauvignon Blanc Lebern, the white wine cuvée "Ludwig II." (Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay, Riesling, Traminer) and Zweigelt Classic. There are also bottle-fermented sects, fine spirits (fruit, grapes, pomace, wine), liqueurs (nut, raspberry, Vistula) and produced in weather-appropriate years ice wines.
