The winery is located in the municipality of Hohenwarth in the south-west of the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of
Weinviertel. It is run by Petra and Leopold Hofbauer-Schmidt, already the sixth generation of the family. Guest rooms are attached. The vineyards cover 14 hectares of vineyards in the Berg, Böndl, Hintaus, Hochstraß, Kögl, Lehen, Mühlweg, Rennweg, Satzgraben and Waidenthal vineyards. They are planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc, Roter Veltliner, Riesling and Grüner Sylvaner, as well as with the red wine varieties Zweigelt and Blauburger. Natural, environmentally friendly viticulture is consistently practised according to ecological guidelines with, for example, the use of
predatory mites for pest control. In the period from the end of October to the beginning of June, the soil is not worked in order not to disturb the vineyard fauna and flora and to prevent humus depletion and erosion. The selective grape harvest is done exclusively by hand. In order to exploit the principle of gravity, the press house was built on three levels. Due to the short distances and the quick and clean processing, there is no need for any
sulphurisation of the mash and the must.
When vinifying the wines, care is taken to emphasise the subtle differences between the individual grape varieties, sites and vintages. The premium wines include various
Weinviertel DAC (Grüner Veltliner), Roter Veltliner Alte Rebe, Weißburgunder Ried Satzgraben and Riesling Alte Reben, as well as the red wine cuvées "Imposant Hohenwarther Freiheit" and "Reserve" (both from the varieties Blauburger and Zweigelt). Regular customers include numerous upscale restaurants, wine shops and many long-standing private customers from all over Austria and Germany. Bottle-fermented sparkling wine and noble brandies are also produced. The winery regularly hosts wine, music and culinary events, with the net proceeds from the culinary offerings going to charitable causes such as "Licht ins Dunkel". The winery is a member of the Weinviertel Winegrowers' Association.
