Hofberger

single vineyard in the two municipalities of Dhron / Neumagen-Dhron and Piesport ( Bernkastel area) in the German Moselle wine-growing region. The names "Hofberg" and "Dhronhofberger" may alternatively be used on the bottle labels. In the Prussian classification of vineyard sites in 1868, the Kernanlage was labelled as one of the best vineyards in the Middle Moselle. Even the monks of the Benedictine Abbey of Tholey in Saarland appreciated the high quality of this single vineyard. In the course of land consolidation in 1971, a considerable extension was made to include areas on the other side of the Moselle. The vineyards on the western bank facing east-south-east with a slope of 30 to 60% cover 85 hectares of vineyards in a side valley of the Moselle along the Dhronbach. The proportions are inhomogeneous due to their size. The shallow, partly stony soils consist of weathered, blue-coloured clay slate with quartzite veins and iron oxide inclusions. The best plots are located in the centre area. The Riesling variety is mainly cultivated here. The A. J. Adam, Eifel Christoph, Loersch-Eifel and Milz Josef wineries, for example, have shares in the site.
