The German wine expert Marcus "Sam" Hofschuster (* 1968) is today one of the most renowned wine critics Germany and Europe. At the end of the 1980s his passion for German wine was awakened. During his time as wine dealer he was already a committed promoter of German top-class plants. At that time, the idea of a comprehensive guide to the best German plants (at that time still parallel online and in book form, meanwhile only more online) was born. Gradually, other countries followed. Today Marcus Hofschuster and his colleagues are tasting and evaluating wines on a daily basis. This was done from the beginning exclusively in the form of blind tastings in the tasting room of Wein-Plus in Erlangen (Middle Franconia).
In principle, no results are published by tastings at producers or at events, as long as they are not rarity samples. All wines provided by the growers are strictly designed 100-point system graded ( wine review ) and in the form of tasting notes ( wine address ). For the purpose of checking the evaluations or determining the development, they are also carried out regularly again tastings, The results have been available online since 1999 on the Wein-Plus website immediately after the tasting. That counts wine guide the most up to date worldwide. By the end of 2016, over 110,000 wines were tasted and described by more than 6,000 growers, all of which are still in the Wein-Plus archive.
