Horn

single vineyard in the municipality of Ingelheim ( Bingen area) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. The site was mentioned in documents as early as 1570 with the name "am Horn". The name refers to the geographical characteristics. Horn" refers to a district characterised by terrain and rocky outcrops. The neighbouring locations look more like hollows, while the "Horn" is a small elevation. The south to south-west facing vineyards with 5 to 10% slopes at 250 metres above sea level cover 22 hectares of vines on fossil shell limestone with loess and sandy loam with good water retention capacity. The climate is characterised by the Rhine Valley, which is protected by the foothills of the Taunus and Hunsrück mountains. The red wine variety Pinot Noir and the white wine varieties Riesling and Pinot Blanc are cultivated here. The Gräff-Schmitt and J. Neus wineries, for example, have shares in the site. There is another single vineyard called Horn in the municipality of Wachenheim (also in Rheinhessen).
