The red grape variety (also CAAB 3/22) is a new variety between Castets x Abouriou. The name was given after a tributary of the Danube. It was crossed in 1976 in Slovakia (then Czechoslovakia) by Dorota Pospíšilová. The plant variety protection was granted in 2011. Incidentally, the new varieties Nitranka, Rimava and Váh were created with the same parents. The late ripening vine is susceptible to powdery mildew, but resistant to botrytis and spring frosts. It produces dark, full-bodied red wines with ageing potential similar to Cabernet Sauvignon. The variety is cultivated in the southwest of Slovakia. In 2016, however, no stock was identified (Kym Anderson).
The Wine lexicon helps me to keep up to date and refresh my knowledge. Thank you for this Lexicon that will never end in terms of topicality! That's what makes it so exciting to come back often.
