Hubacker

single vineyard in the municipality of Flörsheim-Dalsheim (Wonnegau area) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. The origin of the vineyard name goes back to 1490, when "Huffe" meant a unit of measurement for a piece of land of a certain size - later it became "Hube". The south to south-east facing vineyards at 190 to 220 metres above sea level with a slope of 25 to 30% cover 35 hectares of vineyards. The soils consist of skeleton-rich loess, clay marl, limestone rock, sandy loam and slightly stony loamy clay. They benefit from an excellent microclimate in the wind and rain shadow of the Donnersberg. The southeast-facing "Oberer Hubacker" parcel covers four hectares. In 2000, the Keller family erected a 6.5-metre-high stone tower with a diameter of 4.2 metres made of limestone with a bronze plaque in honour of Hedwig Keller (1948-2000). At the end facing the Rhine is a pillar with a sandstone plaque bearing the name of the vineyard. The Riesling, Müller-Thurgau and Blauer Portugieser varieties are grown here. Shares in the site are held, for example, by the wineries Keller Klaus (in sole ownership of "Oberer Hubacker") and Schales.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
