Association founded in San Francisco(California, USA) in the fall of 2007 with the aim of promoting Riesling from around the world and improving worldwide communication between Riesling producers. It is supported by the US winery Château Ste Michelle (Washington State) and the Moselle winemaker Ernst Loosen. With terms such as dry, off-dry or sweet, wines of this grape variety should be clearly labelled for the consumer. Many consumers, especially overseas, would regard Riesling as a sweet wine and would not even notice that dry wines existed. However, not only the pure residual sugar content, but also acidity and other values of the wine should be criteria.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
