Iowa

The federal state with the capital Des Moines counts Arkansas and Missouri to the Midwest United States, From 1788 the country was populated by the first whites. At the beginning of the 19th century, winegrowing was influenced by immigrants from Germany and Switzerland. A specialty is the Amana, a German revival movement that found its way to Iowa around 1843. Until 1932 the community, which lived in several villages (colonies), had no private property. Even today, the Amana villages represent an independent culture that is still strongly German. This is one of the reasons why there is the oldest beer brewery in Iowa. Most of the vineyards are located in the Amana area. There are around a dozen of them, such as Eagle City Winery, Ehrle Brothers, Summerset Winery and Tabor Home Vineyards and Winery. There are severe winters with extreme temperature fluctuations, which is why above all hybrids and varieties of the species Vitis labrusca cultured.
