Jacques Wein-Depot The origin of the wine trading company lies in 1974, when the Frenchman Jacques Héon and the German Olaf Müller-Soppart opened their first shop in Düsseldorf. There they offered wines from France that were less "lieblich" than the preferred taste of the time. The wines could be tasted by customers free of charge. At that time, this was only possible with ex-farm purchases, which was a sales advantage given the mobility by means of one's own car, which was not yet pronounced at that time. The wines came directly from the wholesaler or the winegrower. In 1980, the founders withdrew. The company was taken over by Horten AG in 1983, later became part of Kaufhof Holding (Metro) and finally came under the ownership of the German wine trading group Hawesko Holding AG in 1998.

As a franchise brand, Jacques' Wein-Depot GmbH awards agency contracts to independent wine retailers. In 2019 there were 230 agency owners with over 300 branches (depots) in Germany and 5 in Austria. The wines are sourced directly from producers through centralised purchasing, eliminating importers. Over 200 wines from France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria and overseas are offered, all of which can be tasted free of charge. Every year, about 100 new wines are introduced and, if sales are successful, are added to the range. In the past, there was only direct sales, but today they are also sent out.
