Jaén Tinto

The red grape variety originates from Spain. Synonyms are Calagraño Negro, Jaén, Jaén Negro, Jaén Negro de Granada, Jaén Negro de Sevilla, Jaén Negro de Seville, Jaén Noir, Jaén Prieto, Jaén Prieto de Grenade, Jaén Prieto de Seville, Jaén Prieto Tinto, Morisca Negra, Negro and Tinto Jaén. It should not be confused with the Mencía variety (Jaén Tinto), despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it is a presumably natural cross between Listán Prieto x Cayetana Blanca. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see Molecular genetics). No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
