Joannes Seyve 23-416

The white grape variety (also J.S. 23-416) is complex an interspecific new variety between Bertille Seyve 4825 x Seibel 7053(Chancellor). There are genes of Vitis aestivalis, Vitis cinerea, Vitis lincecumii, Vitis riparia, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The crossing of the hybrids was done in France by Joannes Seyve (1900-1966) at the Seyve-Villard breeding farm. The variety was a cross between the two new varieties Prior and Traminette. In France it is no longer of any importance, small stocks are still to be found in Canada. In 2016, however, no stocks were identified (Kym Anderson).
