The estate is located in the community Bischoffingen (area Kaiserstuhl) in the south of the German wine-growing region to bathe, It was founded in 1985 by Karl-Heinz Johner and his wife Irene. The aim was to produce Burgundy-style wines. The already in barrique developed wines could be marketed in the early years only as table wines. In 2001 was in New Zealand in Wairarapa the winery "Johner Estate" founded. The first wine was launched in 2002. The vineyards cover about 12 hectares of vineyards, with the varieties Pinot Noir (8 ha) and Sauvignon Blanc (3 ha), as well as small quantities Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Gewürztraminer, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec are planted.
