The wine-growing community in the Austrian state Burgenland lies at 130 meters above sea level on the slopes of the Leitha Mountains six kilometers west of Lake Neusiedl. It was first mentioned in a document in 1217 as "Gyois". The Hungarian Queen Maria (1505-1558) granted the place (next to Neusiedl am See and Rust ) the right to mark their wine barrels with the first letter "G" (for Geusz) due to their excellent quality. The letter also appears in the coat of arms with three "Joiser heart cherries", a specialty of the community. The Joiser vineyards Jois used to belong to the wine region Lake Neusiedl, In 2016 there was a restructuring in which the former wine region Neusiedlersee-Hügelland was abandoned and (not congruently) by the newly created wine region Leithaberg was replaced. This now includes the 560 hectare vineyards from Jois. In 1989 the best vineyards created a wine trail. Well-known wineries are Hillinger. Pasler Martin. Scheiblhofer. Halbturn Castle and Umathum,
