Yoke

Very old measure of area (0.25 hectare) already used by the Romans, corresponding to an area of arable land that could be ploughed in one day with one yoke (team) of oxen. Presumably, however, this also applied to perde, but in earlier times oxen were mainly used for agricultural work. The term is derived from the Latin jugerum (iugerum), which corresponded to a quarter of a hectare (2,500 m²). Other terms are juchart, juck, jück, or Tagewerk.
