Judge Franz Georges

The vine school owner and vine breeder Franz Georges Richter (1858 - ????) attended the agricultural school in southern France Montpellier (Languedoc). There he went through research on the topics of contamination by phylloxera and reconstruction familiar. After his training, he was commissioned by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, in Italy nurseries with suitable American vines from France. After returning to France, he founded a vine school, which soon supplied many vintners in France and in the rest of Europe with grafted vines. Due to his competence and success, he was finally commissioned by the Hungarian government to set up state vine schools in Hungary. In a period of 15 years, in which he was in Hungary for two months each year, he monitored 10 million finishes, Richter wrote numerous publications and was also instrumental in creating Victor's Vermorel (1848-1927) and Pierre Viala (1859-1936) ampelography involved. Today his work is continued by the "Richter SA" in St. Clement - La Rivière.
