In the USA, especially in California, a common term ( jug) for a simple consumer wine. After Prohibition was lifted in 1933, such bulk wines were bottled in jugs with screw tops, i.e. bottles with a volume of 1.5 to 4 litres. Today, however, the term is rarely used and has been replaced by other terms such as Bag-in-Box-Wines or Fighting Varietals. See also under Branded wine and Value brands.
