The white grape variety (also Tarcal 10) is a new cross between Hárslevelű x Bouvier. The cross was made in 1967 in Hungary by the breeders László Brezovsik and Gáborné Szakolczay. The early-maturing, high-yielding vine is moderately susceptible to fungal diseases, but resistant to winter frost. It produces acidic white wines with lime blossom aroma. It has been permitted for Tokaj since 2006; however, it occupies only 1% of the vineyard area in the Tokaj-Hegyalja region. In 2016, a total of 30 hectares of vineyards were designated (Kym Anderson statistics).
As honorary chairman of the Domäne Wachau, it is the easiest and quickest way for me to access the wein.plus encyclopaedia when I have questions. The certainty of receiving well-founded and up-to-date information here makes it an indispensable guide.
