Karst Ernst

The "Ernst Karst & Sohn" winery is located in the municipality of Bad Dürkheim (Mittelhaart area / Deutsche Weinstraße) in the German wine-growing region palatinate, The traditional company has been family-owned since 1765. A guest house is connected. It is managed by Erika Karst, the winery by Manfred Karst. After studying basic biology and training as a wine engineer, son Uli is responsible for the cellar. The vineyards cover 11.5 hectares of vineyards in the individual layers Hochbenn, Nonnengarten, Rittergarten and Spielberg (Bad Dürkheim), as well Königswingert and almond garden (Wachenheim). They are planted with the white varieties Riesling (40% of the area), Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Muscatel and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as with the red varieties Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, St. Laurent, Lemberger, Dunkelfelder, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are vinified in the newly built wine press house with gentle pressing technology and completely temperature-controlled fermentation of the musts. The white wines are fermented and aged in steel tanks. After the maceration, the red wines mature in large wooden barrels or in barriques. In weather-appropriate years too Eiswein vinified.
