One of the locations classified as Grand Cru in Alsace (Bas-Rhin) within the appellation Alsace Grand Cru, It is one of the oldest vineyards in Alsace and was used for viticulture in Roman times. A document from 1064 describes the high quality of the wines. The steeply sloping south-facing vineyards cover six hectares of vineyards on a sloping granite-covered terroir in the municipality of Andlau. Here is mainly Riesling and also Gewurztraminer and Pinot gris grown. Well-known producers are André Durrmann, Domaine Klipfel, Marc Kreydenweiss, Charles Moritz and Guy Wach.
