One of the classified Grand Cru positions in the Alsace (Bas-Rhin) within the appellation Alsace Grand Cru, It is one of the oldest vineyards in Alsace and was already used in the Roman period for viticulture. A document from the year 1064 describes the high quality of the wines. The vineyards in steeply sloping south cover six hectares of vineyards on schistige granite interspersed terroir in the municipality Andlau. Here is mainly Riesling and also Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris grown. Well-known producers are André Durrmann, Domaine Klipfel, Marc Kreydenweiss, Charles Moritz and Guy Wach.
