Katsano

The white grape variety (also Katsamon) originates from Greece. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2007, there is a close genetic relationship to the Platani variety. However, the parentage is unknown. The early-maturing, low-yielding vine is generally resistant to diseases. It produces floral, rather low-acid white wines with aromas of lemon and honey. The variety is cultivated in small quantities in the Cyclades (especially on the island of Santorini). However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
