The winery is located in the municipality of Windesheim in the German wine-growing region of Nahe. It is run by the brothers Christoph and Markus Kauer. The traditional winery has been in the family since 1697. Since 1992, it has been managed by the 14th generation of the Kauer brothers, Markus and Christoph. Since the 2000 vintage, the wine cellar has been completely in the hands of Christoph Kauer. The vineyards cover ten hectares of vines in the single vineyards Römerberg, Rosenberg, Saukopf and Sonnenmorgen (Windesheim). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Rivaner, as well as Pinot Noir. Natural, environmentally friendly viticulture is consistently practised. The quality criteria in the vineyard are intensive foliage work, low yields, late and selective hand harvesting, and gentle grape processing. After a long fermentation and yeast storage, the wines are predominantly vinified dry. Bottle-fermented sparkling wine is also produced.
