Kees-Kieren

The estate is located in the municipality of Bernkastel-Graach (Bernkastel area) in the German wine-growing region Moselle, The Kees family is already in the 12th generation of viticulture. It was initially based in Kinheim until the grandfather of the current owners married into the Graieren family Kieren. It has been managed by Ernst-Josef and Werner Kees since 1980. A guest house is connected. The vineyards cover almost six hectares of vineyards in the individual layers podium (Earth), Domprobst and Heaven (Graach) Paulinshofberger (Kesten), as well as Hubertuslay and Rosenberg (Kinheim). More than 80% of them are planted with Riesling, the rest with the varieties Müller-Thurgau, Kerner and Pinot Noir. Already in 1985 the estate was awarded the agricultural innovation prize for its grape acceptance system. There is a late harvest into November with selective hand picking with up to four stages.

Depending on the condition of the grapes and the desired type of wine, the grapes are either subjected to whole grape pressing or lightly squeezed before pressing. After strong preliminary clarification, the simpler wines ferment in steel tanks, while the higher quality musts are generally aged in wood. According to the condition of the grape material, the use of Spontaneous- or pure-bred yeasts. After a barrel aging lasting up to six months, the wines are finally bottled by May of the next year at the latest.
