Kellerberg (Riede Austria)

Popular vineyard term in Austria, The most well-known is in the municipality Dürnstein in the Lower Austrian winegrowing area Wachau on the south-eastern slope of Dürnsteiner Schlossberg. It is named after the baroque jewel "Kellerschlössl Dürnstein" at the base of the Winzervereinigung Domäne Wachau, where regular tastings take place. The extremely steep terraced to south to southeast oriented vineyards with up to 65% slope Tilt cover 12 hectares of vineyards at 204 to 336 meters above sea level. They lie on weathered primeval soil with abundant share of gneiss and schist and Löss islands. Here are mainly the varieties Green Valtellina and Riesling cultured. There are two Subrieden named "Wunderburg" and "kiss the penny". The second derives from the difficult working conditions, because "every penny that needs to be paid for this wine is worth kissing".
