The term is derived from the Latin "calcare" (= step on, stamp), in a broader sense it also means "with your feet stamp ". For centuries it was customary to kick the grapes with your feet, which is still practiced today (see also under Lagar ). Pressing is an ancient term for the pressing process and also for the mechanical device used for this, the wine press (lat. Calcatorium = wine press). Colloquially, however, is often used as a term for the whole winemaking used - a wine is pressed. See also under Press (Process and devices) and Torggel,
