The "Bioweingut Kemetner" is located in the municipality of Etsdorf in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of
Kamptal. As early as 1641, Nikolaus Kemetner is mentioned at the ancestral home, and his son Johannes is explicitly named as "Vinitor in Etsdorff" in 1666. The family seal documented in the mid-18th century and recently rediscovered (with a heart and three flowers growing out of it and the initials "J.K.") adorns the label. Today, the winery is run by the 11th generation, Leopold Kemetner and son Simon.
The vineyards cover nine hectares of vineyards in the Galgenberg, Hofstadt, Karl, Oberhasel, Wohra and Wolfsgraben vineyards. More than 80% of the vineyards are planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner
(leading variety with 60%), Riesling, Rivaner, Chardonnay, Roter Muskateller and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Blauburgunder and Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2008, the farm was converted to
organic viticulture in accordance with the
Bio Austria guidelines. Certification as an organic farm was granted by the
Austria Bio Garantie inspection body in 2011.
Beneficial insects have been promoted for many years, which is documented on the website by the credo "Every vine has its spider". When
pruning the vines, the
phases of the moon are taken into account.
Only
organic wines are produced in accordance with the
EU Organic Regulation. Most of the fermentation takes place
spontaneously with the vineyard's own natural yeasts, and there is no need for any improvement or concentration of the must. Depending on the type of wine, the wines are matured in steel tanks or in large wooden barrels, the red wines also in barriques. The premium wines include several Rieslings and Grüner Veltliner
Kamptal DAC and Kamptal DAC Reserve from different vineyards. Organic grape juice and organic secco are also produced.
