Kerner Justinus

The German poet and physician Justinus Andreas Christian Kerner (1786-1862) studied medicine and natural sciences in Tübingen (Baden-Württemberg). From the year 1819 he practiced as a doctor in vineyard, Among other things, he carried out scientific experiments on the influence of wine on the psyche, for example on the effects of Riesling on the nervous system in comparison with wines of other grape varieties. He had a very intimate relationship with the vines and the wine, which he also enjoyed very much. In prose and poetry he paid homage to his beloved juice and wrote numerous poems about wine, which were also set to music and folk songs - for example, the well-known "Wanderlied" (Well drunk nor the sparkling wine! Ade now, beloved, divorced Ade well, you mountains, you fatherly house! It drives me out into the distance). His circle of friends included, among others, the poets Ludwig Uhland, Eduard Mörike and Nikolaus Lenau, In his honor, in the year 1968 the new breed Trollinger x Riesling was created in Weinbauinstitut Weinsberg Kerner designated. Incidentally, his son Theobald Kerner (1817-1907) wrote the text for the well-known song "From the cycle of wine" (see below) Quotes ).
